First off, there may be no reason for you to upgrade at all, if your theme is doing all you need it to do then you are set. But if you are looking for some of the new features continue...

----------------------

If you have "ComicPress 2.5", you should just be able to overwrite the theme with the new files. Done.

But chances are you have ComicPress 2.5.30-myhacks/advanced.beta.127b, in other words, your own heavily styled and maybe even function modified version. After all, ComicPress is designed to be a template barebones for you to style and build on.

The problem is, the only person that can provide upgrades and support to this custom version, is you the creator. What we CAN do here at ComicPress World though is assist you in making any upgrades to your theme to get it up to speed with ComicPress 2.7 and its features.

First off, you need to weigh how heavily modified your theme is, and do you think it would be easier to build it back up from a fresh ComicPress 2.7 theme, or to just add some necessary customizations to it. This could also be based on how much of the new features you are trying to get into it. Maybe you just want add compatibility for threaded comments.

Maybe it's time to rethink your site a bit anyway, or clean it up. Sometimes when you build a site you hack it along as you go. And its good to go back in and optimize things, and design them with the big picture of the finished design in mind. That could be weighted towards building it off the new ComicPress. Maybe you just finished building it off 2.5 (sorry!), that might be weighted towards modifying it.

So if you decide to modify your version...

---------------
HOW TO MAKE THE 2.7 MODIFICATIONS

Okay, there is no guide to do this. I typed that big cause I know some of you would just skip down to that anyway. Wink

But we can build the guide together feature at a time, it's going to vary some so I think it needs to be more of a case-by-case basis since your themes vary, but there is enough similarity most other should be able to benefit. If there is a specific new 2.7 feature you are trying to add to your theme, post a topic for it in this forum. Begin the topic title with "2.7 Upgrade: " followed by what you want, and we'll go from there. Be sure to include a link to your site, and what version of ComicPress you built your site off of. There's no promises, but there has always been a lot of support from each other in this forum. You might even just want to share your own solutions.

I spent a few hours last night going through the Stylesheet in my 2.5 and in 2.7, trying to make the details of 2.7 look like they did in 2.5. I had added some graphic touches that meshed with the old fonts and colors, and looked out of place in the more spartan look that comes out of the box in 2.7.

It was a bit time consuming, but I think I managed to preserve the look of my 2.5 site, while getting access to the functionality of the 2.7 upgrade. The new features are super. Thanks very much.

I'm having a problem with the shading/shadow graphic-effect that is on the left and right edges; I'm using the Grapich Novel edition of 2.7 and the shading simply will not appear, even though I've tried to re-download and then uploading the new version to my site. Is this a problem with GN 2.7 or is it something on my end that is causing this?

It's not really a big deal, all in all, but it is driving me nuts because I can't figure out what is causing it.
(and sorry if this isn't the right place to post this)

This may be obvious, but this is what you do if like me you are happy with 2.5 and don't really need any of the features of 2.7 except the support for threaded comments.

- Make a copy of your old "comments.php" in case you need to revert.
- Download the new theme.
- Locate and open "comments.php" in the new theme.
- On the first line, change
<div class="comment-wrap">
to
<div class="comment-wrapper">
- Upload this new "comments.php" to your ComicPress folder on your server, copying over the old one.
- Make sure "enable threaded comments" is checked in Settings>Discussion.

Tada! Threaded comments!

At least that worked for me.

(Oh, and don't forget to delete the cache if you're using wp-supercache)
